The majority of car thefts in the borough are the result of people leaving their keys in the car.
This is especially true in the winter months when people leave their cars running to either warm it up, or keep it from getting cold. Whether the car is in your driveway, the front of your house, or you are stopping at a local convenience store “for only a minute” to get the paper and a cup of coffee, shut the engine off and take the keys with you. It takes less than 5 seconds for a car thief to open the car door and drive away with your car. Don’t make your vehicle a target of opportunity.
